HTC Desire U up for Pre-Order in India
HTC Desire U up for Pre-Order in India
After launching their premium devices, HTC has finally shifted to the entry-level and budget phones in India. HTC Desire U unveiled in Jan this year is up for pre-order on most leading e-commerce sites.
The phone comes with basic, entry level specifications. The HTC Desire U runs on the slightly outdated Android ICS, ver 4.0. Needless to say, HTC Sense UI accompanies the phone. The display is a 4-inch Super LCD capacitive touchscreen and a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels.
Under the hood runs a 1 GHz processor. The phone comes with 4 GB internal memory and 512 MB RAM. The e-commerce stores offer 8 GB memory card along with the phone so though the memory is expandable, there’s no memory card HTC has bundled along with the phone. The RAM is less than satisfactory at 512 MB.
The HTC Desire U comes with a 5 MP rear end camera with LED Flash. The Taiwanese phone-maker has also provided a basic video-calling front camera.
The phone is pretty heavy at 114 grams and comes in two colours: Black and White. There is an Orange version too, though none of the e-commerce sites have listed it yet.
The HTC Desire U comes with 1650 mAh battery.
HTC which is facing stiff competition from Samsung needs to expand the budget and mid-range phone segment in India. While the HTC Desire U priced at 13,499 might seem like the ideal entry level smart-phone, the specifications are less than satisfactory. In a similar price range, Micromax and Karbonn have multiple phones with much better and advanced specs. Also, Samsung, HTC’s arch rival has multiple phones in the sub-15k range.
While Indian customers are price conscious, they also need good features and impressive specifications at a low price. While HTC phones do promise good hardware, the shaky specs of HTC Desire U leaves much to be desired.
