Huawei teams with Talktalk for Ascend G510, Mediapad 7 release
CHINESE PHONE MAKER Huawei announced on Thursday that it has teamed with Talktalk for the release of its three latest Android devices, the Ascend G510 and Ascend Y210 smartphones and its Mediapad 7 tablet.
The Huawei Ascend G510 smartphone, which was a Vodafone exclusive up until now, is the most interesting of the three, featuring a 4.5in screen, a dual-core 1.2GHz processor and Google’s Android 4.1 Jelly Bean mobile operating system, despite its dirt cheap £10 a month price.
The device, which also features Huawei’s Emotion user interface, a 5MP camera and a 1,750mAh battery, will be available via Talktalk from 4 June.
The Huawei Ascend Y210, on the other hand, is available through the operator today, priced at just £5 per month. However, it’s worth noting that this tariff gives buyers only 100 minutes, 250 texts and 200MB of mobile data each month.
This cheap as chips price is justified by the handset’s specifications, which include Google’s ageing Android 2.3 Gingerbread mobile operating system, a 3.5in low resolution touchscreen and a 3MP rear-facing camera.
The Huawei Mediapad 7 is unsurprisingly a 7in tablet that aims to challenge the Asus Fonepad in the budget tablet market. The Mediapad 7, which was announced almost a year ago, looks a little dated compared to its rivals, featuring Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and a 7in 1280×800 resolution touchscreen. There’s also a dual-core processor, both rear and front-facing cameras, the option of both 3G and WiFi connectivity and up to 32GB of expandable internal storage.
Still, all this is reflected in its price. The Mediapad 7 will be available in bundles with either the Ascend G510 or Ascend Y210 smartphone, priced at £20 and £15 a month, respectively.
