Asus Memopad HD 7 gets price and date for UK release
COMPUTER MAKER Asus will release its Memopad HD 7 tablet in the UK this August, the company announced on Tuesday.
Asus unveiled the Memopad HD 7, essentially an upgraded version of the Google Nexus 7, at Computex in Taiwan on Monday as it looks to increase its share of the Android tablet market and challenge Apple’s iPad Mini.
Today the firm has announced that the 16GB version of the tablet will see a UK release, arriving on British shelves in August priced at £149. However, given that the 16GB model will fetch $149 in the US, or around £97, some might be put off by the firm’s unfair pricing strategy.
The 8GB model, priced at $129 in the US, won’t be released in the UK.
Given the tablet’s decent specifications, buyers are unlikely to be too miffed that the device will be cheaper in the US. The Asus Memopad HD 7 looks to outdo the Nexus 7 with its quad-core ARM Cortex A7 processor, 1280×800 IPS screen and four different colour versions in black, pink, white and yellow.
The device also features a 5MP rear-facing camera, a 1.2MP front-facing camera, microSD support up to 32GB and additional cloud storage from Asus.
Asus also announced that the 7in model will be joined by a larger model, the Asus Memopad HD 10, although it’s unclear if this will see a UK release. This features a 1920×1200 touchscreen, Intel’s Hyper-Threading technology for improved graphics, front and rear-facing cameras and 16GB or 32GB of internal storage.
