Sony Xperia S Finally Gets Jelly Bean, Along With Xperia SL and acro S
Although Android 4.1 has been around for quite some time (at least by mobile world standards), not every handset considered a flagship device at the time of Jelly Beans’ debut benefits from this version of the OS. Some of these handsets still run on Ice Cream Sandwich, and several devices from Sony’s 2013 line-up are still playing catch-up.
Fortunately, last week we’ve reported that Sony Xperia S owners in France have started receiving the long-awaited Jelly Bean update. It was only a matter of time before the update landed in other regions, given Sony’s own “end of May” deadline, and here we are. Today we’re bringing you more news regarding the Sony Xperia S, SL, acro S and Xperia Ion Jelly Bean update.
Sony Xperia S Jelly Bean (Android 4.1)
The manufacturer in question has recently broken the silence and announced that Xperia S owners can now pull Android 4.1 on their devices, with the help of the Sony PC Companion software.
The package arrives with a new kernel and a handful of additions and updated apps.
Sony has confirmed on its Twitter account that the Xperia S, SL and acro S are all eligible for the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, and it also mentioned the Xperia Ion, which is AT&T’s version of the Xperia S. However, Ion owners will have to wait a bit more for Jelly Bean to arrive, and no exact timeframe has been revealed other than “to follow”.
Have any of you managed to download and install the Jelly Bean update on your Xperia handset? If so, don’t hesitate to leave a comment below and let us know what changes and improvements you’ve noticed.
