Microsoft Hints at WebGL Support in Internet Explorer 11
Microsoft has published a new Vine video on “The Browser You Loved to Hate” page, indicating that WebGL support in Internet Explorer is very likely in the near future.
While no other specifics have been provided, it might seem like Internet Explorer 11 could be the version to bring WebGL capabilities to Microsoft’s in-house browser. IE11 is expected to be released later this year, together with Windows 8.1, the first major makeover for Windows 8.
Back in March, web developer Francois Remy looked into a leaked build of Windows Blue and came across some files that could be used to bring WebGL features in Internet Explorer.
“I didn’t get webgl working, even by trying using iesl, hlsl and other combinations. So, it seems like WebGL interfaces are defined but not functional at this time,” he wrote at that time.
